This is impossible to read due to serious issues with the complete lack of correct formatting, and the type keeps changing.
I've read the earlier books in this series but did not especially enjoy this one. It seemed far-fetched and characters from so many police agencies were confusing.
I had a very difficult time getting through the book. For whatever reason, the spacing was completely off. There were also a number of mistakes & type os. As for the plot, I'd say readers need to read these books in order. Because this is #4, I had no attachment to the characters. If you have read the 3 prior, than I'm sure you would have a better opinion than I do. I was disappointed.
I have not read any of the volumes of the Dangerous Journeys Mystery series. However, after reading The Child on the Terrace, I am inclined to purchase the first 3 volumes. Dr. McPhail is an unassuming atypical heroine. Her great maternal instincts recognizes a child in an unnatural setting. and compels her to take action.

Ms. Winters pays great attention to details and history. She crafts a believable story with an unpredictable plot.
The story is slow to build up tension the first few chapters. However, once the plot moves in gear, I was engaged wondering what is going to happen next. The villains are formidable. The dialogue is snappy. My favorite character interchange

"What's wrong with you?"
"The Israeli shot me before he died..I want you to take it out."
"I'm not a surgeon."
"The you'll die not being a surgeon."
Supplies, she thought.
"I'll need medical supplies."

I have read all of the previous books in this series and have commented on most. Although the editing is poor I have kept reading this series because the story lines are very good. Also, this story is more of a crime drama instead of a genealogical mystery. Again, I do like the story so don't let the poor editing keep you from reading it.
Also keep in mind that all of the e-books in this series including this one are free with Unlimited but the fifth book in this series you will have to purchase. To me it is a lame attempt to get you hooked on a series and then charge you to keep reading. I personally, am not going to pay for the next book simply because of the poor editing.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Child on the Terrace. It remained suspenseful to the very end. Virginia painted a very good picture of the area where the mystery begins, also of other places the story took Anne and Naomi to on their "dangerous journey" through Spain, France and Italy.
I developed an attachment to certain characters in the book, despite their questionable intentions! The author's interest and knowledge of art is appreciated too throughout the story. A very good read on a snowy winter day!
